Neck Pain Physiotherapy in Eastbourne
Neck pain can make surprisingly simple things difficult — turning to check your blind spot, sitting at a desk, sleeping comfortably or getting through a normal training session.
At DC Physiotherapy, we see people with everything from a recent stiff or painful neck to symptoms that have been coming and going for months or years.
Common Neck Problems We See
Physiotherapy may be helpful for:
Neck pain and stiffness
Pain associated with prolonged desk or computer work
Whiplash-related symptoms
Pain extending into the shoulder or arm
Tingling or numbness associated with nerve irritation
Recurring episodes of neck pain
Neck-related headaches
Reduced movement following injury or inactivity
You do not need to know exactly what structure is causing the problem before booking. Working that out is part of the assessment.
Understanding Your Neck Pain
During your first appointment, we'll talk through your symptoms and how they are affecting you before assessing your neck movement, strength and relevant surrounding areas.
If you have symptoms travelling into the arm, your physiotherapist may also carry out neurological tests to assess the nerves coming from your neck.
Once we've assessed the problem, we'll explain our findings and agree on a plan.
Treatment might include manual therapy, massage, advice about activity and targeted exercise. For many people, the longer-term goal will include restoring movement and progressively building the neck and surrounding muscles' capacity to cope with work, exercise and daily life.
Can Physiotherapy Help With Headaches?
Sometimes.
Certain headaches can be associated with the joints, muscles and nerves around the neck, and physiotherapy may be appropriate in these cases.
However, not all headaches originate from the neck and not all headaches should be treated with physiotherapy. Your physiotherapist will ask about the nature of your headaches and advise you if your symptoms suggest that medical assessment would be more appropriate.
Do I Need a Referral?
No. Private patients can book directly with one of our physiotherapists without a GP referral.
