Shoulder Pain Physiotherapy in Eastbourne
Shoulder pain can affect everything from putting on a coat or sleeping comfortably to lifting weights, swimming or playing sport.
Because many different shoulder problems can produce similar symptoms, a good assessment matters.
DC Physiotherapy provides assessment and rehabilitation for both recent and longstanding shoulder problems at our Eastbourne clinic.
Shoulder Problems We Treat
These include:
Rotator cuff-related shoulder pain
Frozen shoulder
Shoulder instability
Previous dislocation
Shoulder arthritis
Sports-related shoulder injuries
Pain with lifting or reaching
Post-operative shoulder rehabilitation
You may also have heard terms such as shoulder impingement, rotator cuff tendinopathy, subacromial pain or bursitis.
These labels are often used to describe overlapping presentations rather than completely separate problems. What matters for treatment is understanding your symptoms, function and what your shoulder currently struggles to tolerate.
A Detailed Shoulder Assessment
Your physiotherapist will ask about how the problem started, what movements cause difficulty and what you want to get back to.
We'll then assess your shoulder movement, strength and function and examine other areas where relevant.
David has additional experience in shoulder assessment through his work as an Advanced Practitioner within the NHS, alongside his role at DC Physiotherapy.
How Can Physiotherapy Help?
Treatment depends on the type and stage of your shoulder problem.
Manual therapy or massage may sometimes be useful for managing pain and stiffness. Exercise rehabilitation is often used to progressively restore movement, strength and tolerance to reaching, lifting or sporting activity.
For conditions such as frozen shoulder, the expected progression and treatment approach may look very different from rehabilitation following a shoulder dislocation or rotator cuff problem.
That is why treatment should be based on the individual rather than simply prescribing a standard collection of shoulder exercises.
What If I've Already Had Shoulder Pain for Months?
You can still book an assessment.
Shoulder symptoms can sometimes persist for a considerable period, particularly when certain movements or loads continue to aggravate them. Your physiotherapist can assess where you are now and help determine a realistic route forward.
